What is an Indian Headdress

What is an Indian headdress? You may have seen this in history books and in the recent years, fashion campaigns, but what is it really? What is the history and significance behind this iconic head piece?

The Indian headdress is a revered head piece worn by the bravest of men in certain Native American tribes. Every individual feather that make-up the headpiece has to be earned through a feat of courage or noble act that will benefit the entire tribe. Brave men would be able to earn 3 or 4 feathers in his lifetime, but the truly exceptional warriors can earn enough to create an entire Indian headdress.

Therefore, the Indian headdress is not just a stunning piece of art, or a memorable icon found in the pages of history, its significance is interwoven in a people’s spiritual and cultural heritage which makes it even more valuable than some people may think it is. People who own an Indian headdress should be honored to have this in their homes.
